By: Mette Kier
When I was appointed as the director of Vejle Music Theatre in August 2019, I didn't know much about the city. I knew it was beautifully and centrally located in Denmark, but I quickly found out that Vejle is a small big-city gem in Denmark. Not only because the city is surrounded by rolling hills and the fjord that embraces the city, but also because Vejle has a lot to offer.
Dining Out
In Vejle, almost everything is within walking distance from the Music Theatre, which is right in the middle of the city park. Therefore, it's not far to the city's many excellent restaurants, which offer everything from social dining to Michelin restaurants. Gastronomy really is in high regard in Vejle, and at Restaurant Remouladen , the view couldn't be better with the fjord, the marina, Fjordenhus, and The Wave in the background. Architecture, which has gradually become a hallmark of modern Vejle. Enzo & C is located right opposite the Music Theatre and offers pizza and small delicious Italian dishes, while the restaurant Nôgen, which focuses on turning food waste into a unique taste experience, is also really worth a visit. After the evening's performance, you can just manage to get a nightcap at No14 Wine Bar, which is open until 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Shopping
Many of our out-of-town guests are surprised by how vibrant the retail scene in Vejle is. Therefore, I can only recommend arriving early for a performance at the Music Theatre, so there's time to shop in the cozy pedestrian street. There is a really good mix of shops with both exclusive and more mainstream brands in clothing and small exciting specialty stores. In Vissinggade, you can find Smag Dansk, offering a sea of Danish specialties, including local suppliers. Fabrikanterne in Vejle Midtpunkt is an exciting design community of individual designers in lifestyle, home, fashion, and self-indulgence. There are also many thrift stores worth checking out. The latest addition is Reshoppit.dk at Vestre Engvej 1B, which is a luxury secondhand shop.

Cultural Experiences
If you choose to stay overnight in connection with a performance at the Music Theatre, there's an opportunity to experience more culture in Vejle. Spinderihallerne is definitely worth a visit. Here, you're guaranteed to encounter the unexpected, such as large cardboard boxes transformed into houses, colorful paper birds soaring across the ceiling, a decorated ambulance, or an exhibition about Vejle as a former industrial city. In Skyttehushaven, located by Nørreskoven, where the legendary VB (Vejle Boldklub) is based, as well as Dyrehaven and the fjord, the garden architecture is so exquisite that it almost takes your breath away.
