Nature along Rans Togt

From village to village, you walk along country roads that wind through the Jutland landscape. The hiking route Rans Togt takes you through river valleys, vast expanses, and past the sources of the Gudenå River.

If you start on the Watershed Stage (Vandskels-etapen) at Museum Give (the official start of the route), you can enjoy the beautiful museum forest located right by the museum. If you have your dog with you, you can let it loose in the dog forest within the museum forest.

On this stage, you will also pass by the source of the Gudenå River and the beautiful natural area surrounding it. A special natural area is Tinnet Krat and Kollemorten Krat, which constitute some of the country’s largest areas of oak scrub; Denmark’s original forests. Nearby, you will also find Rørbæk Lake, which is surrounded by forest and steep slopes with heather and juniper bushes along its entire length

On Tte Hovedkær Stage (Hovedkær-etapen), you pass through five unique village environments. You walk along fields and open expanses. When you reach the village of Hygum, you can make a small detour to Brandbjerg Højskole (about 2.6 kilometers). The school is located on the edge of Grejsdal Valley, one of the country’s deepest and most beautiful valleys with steep hillsides and the Grejs River. Here you will also find Brandbjerg Sønderskov. The forest has been untouched since 1997, creating a fantastically beautiful natural area.

The Viking Stage (Vikinge-etapen) goes from Jelling to Vejle, and on this stage, you pass through Jelling Forest. In some places, the forest is dense, while in others, it is more open, allowing the sunlight to shine down between the tree trunks. The route also passes by Hopballe Mill, which is beautifully situated by the Grejs River.

Once again, you find yourself at the edge of Grejsdal Valley. It is a special experience to walk at the bottom of the valley and look up at the steep slopes, where houses cling to the hillside, framed by beech forest.

Soon, you will be in the center of Vejle, where you can feel the city life up close.

The Valley Stage (Ådals-etapen) offers beautiful nature in Vejle River Valley. You start the tour around the wetland area Kongens Kær, with plenty of wild birds and beautiful lakes.

When you reach the town of Ødsted, you can make a detour to Vingsted (about 2.8 kilometers), where you can enjoy the beautiful nature around the Vejle River. Here, you can also take a break at the shelter area.

From Ødsted towards Egtved, you can take a detour through the scenic area of Vork Bakker, with ravines, hilltops, and beautiful views.

On the Bronze Stage (Bronze-etapen), you can enjoy more of Vejle River Valley, as well as Egtved River Valley.

After leaving Egtved, you can make a stop at Tørskind Gravel Pit, where you have a fantastic view over the valley.

After a walk along the bottom of the valley, you arrive at Bindeballe Merchant’s Shop and Bindeballe Station, which are located in beautiful surroundings. With a small detour from here (about 2.9 kilometers), you can visit Runkenbjerg, which offers more beautiful views over both Vejle River Valley and Egtved River Valley.

You also pass through the village of Randbøldal, which winds along deep forest slopes and babbling brooks.

Her er nemlig opstillet 90 skulpturer rundt i byen.

The last stage of Rans Togt is the Heath Stage (Hede-etapen). Here, you start from Ny Nørup and quickly pass by Engelsholm Lake. Make a stop at Nørup Church and enjoy one of the most beautiful views over the lake and Engelsholm Castle. You can also take a small detour to explore Engelsholm Castle Park (about 2.1 kilometers).

Now, the route continues along fields and open stretches past the villages of Lindeballe and Farre, and ends in the town of Give. In Give, you can take a walk in Denmark’s largest open-air gallery, where 90 sculptures are displayed around the town.
